What's up Chipmunk?

Some of you asked for it...So here it is.......THE CHIPMUNK SONG!

Oh......a chipmunk, a chipmunk sitting on a limb.
Oh he winked at me, so I winked at him.
Then I picked up a chip and I hit him on the chin,
And he said, "Hey You! Don't do that again!"

So I skipped, skipped, skipped, skipped, skipped along with him.
Then I stopped, and I pat, and I clapped and I spin.
Oh I skipped, skipped, skipped, skipped, skipped along with him.
Then I stopped, and I pat, and I clapped and I end.

MUSIC HISTORY ALERT!!!   The Chipmunk song is an American Folksong. It was originally used as a song to sing around a campfire when you go camping with a group. People began singing it back in the 1950s and over the years the words have been changed as the song has been passed along.

Check out the original words:

Oh a chipmunk, chipmunk sitting on a limb
And he winked at me and I at him
So I picked up a chip and I hit him on the chin
And he said: "Young man, don't you try that again!"

Hey skip along, skip along a Josie
Hey skip along and a skip along a Joe
Hey skip along, skip along a Josie
Hey skip along and a skip along a Joe

Pretty cool! The original words are great, but I like our Partnership version the best!

CHALLENGE:
Can you sing it on your own? Or maybe do the dance with some friends?
Could you organize a group of students to play the game?
Go for it!

Give it a Rest

We having been working on reading and playing rhythms in music.

Can you read this rhythm?

The rests (or silences) in music are my favorite.
I think the silence makes the sound more enjoyable.

Here is a really cool song and video about rests.
Check it out!
